MASTER OF FINE ARTS DEGREE IN STUDIO

The Master of Fine Arts, with areas of concentration in ceramics, drawing and painting, new media, photography, printmaking, and sculpture is nationally recognized for emphasizing excellence in the study and production of visual art and critical theory.

As the art world has changed radically over the past ten years, so must the training of professional artists. Today's artists must possess not only the skills traditionally associated with studio production, but also must be acutely aware of critical issues in art, shifts within contemporary culture, and developments in the interdisciplinary arts.

This M.F.A. program responds to these developments by encouraging interaction among graduate students and faculty across disciplines within the School, the College of Arts and Architecture, and the University.

FACILITIES AND RESOURCES
Students enrolled in the School of Visual Arts Studio Graduate Program work in well-equipped studios and have access to an exceptional wood and metal shop for general use and specific projects. In addition to open access computer labs throughout the campus, the School of Visual Arts maintains several state of the art labs for general student use housed in Patterson Building.

JOHN M. ANDERSON ENDOWMENT ARTISTS AND SCHOLARS LECTURE SERIES
The recently established John Anderson Endowment brings world class professionals in art to the School of Visual Arts for lectures, panel discussions, and semester residencies.

GRADUATE STUDIOS
The majority of the areas of concentration provide generous private or semiprivate studio space for Master of Fine Art students.

GRADUATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
An average of 90% of admitted studio art graduate students receive some form of Graduate Assistant support. The majority of Graduate Assistantships provide a full tuition waver and a monthly stipend in exchange for service to the program as determined by the Director of the School of Visual Arts. A competitive University Graduate Fellowship provides grants for students with exceptional academic credentials and provides a full tuition waiver and a stipend for the first year of study, without the obligation of service to the program.
